Forever Was Just a Time

Now time has traded the golden days of Summer
and castles in the sand,
for icy patterns etched upon my window pane

In the kitchen kneading bread with my bare hands
visions fill my head
The fragrance of cinnamon in the air, reminiscent of
my childhood and home

I am desperately trying to hang onto my youth
If only I had known the truth of life when I was young
I could have been the wiser one

An empty swing where children played
sways gently in the breeze
A welcome whisper of hope and persuasion
as Mamas' voice eludes me

Sweet memories of Daddy cheering me on from the wing
The heartbreak when I realized all of this was gone
I find traces of you among my souvenirs
entries in my diary of dreams

Where our song of love plays softly on a silver wind
Though we will never pass this way again...
and "Forever was just a time"

( this poem dedicated to my Dad who always encouraged my talents, and to encourage my Mother who was left behind after he passed)
