This year, the NaNoWriMists Prize List is bigger than ever! Not only are there prizes for the whole group, there are also separate prizes for the Turbo and Casual sections, as well as word count bonuses and secret prizes too!

If you've stumbled on this Prize List by chance, pop over to "The NaNoWriMists 2012 to see what it's all about. From there you can find most things connected to the group, but something that everyone should make sure they read is "The NaNoWriMists 2010 Contest Rules.

Whole Group Prizes

All the NaNoWriMists can enter the following categories, regardless of which section they're writing in.

*Bullet*Best Page
*Bullet*Best Opening Paragraph
*Bullet*Word Count Bonuses
*Bullet*Secret Prizes

Best Page

The Best Page category will be judged on writing style, interest, realism (if appropriate to genre), and general appeal to the judges. Although spelling and grammar will not be judged, please ensure that your entry is legible!

First Prize: A 50,000 gift point Awardicon, in the winner's choice of colour.
Second Prize: A 25,000 gift point Awardicon, in the winner's choice of colour.

*Bullet*500-800 words
*Bullet*Any point in the novel

Best Opening Paragraph

This prize rewards the most interesting opening paragraph to the novel: the one which makes the judges want to read further and which draws the reader in to the plot. Again, spelling and grammar will not be judged.

If your novel involves a preface or other type of introductory section, you may decide whether to enter the first paragraph of your introduction, or the first paragraph of the main novel.

First Prize: A 50,000 gift point Awardicon, in the winner's choice of colour.
Second Prize: A 25,000 gift point Awardicon, in the winner's choice of colour.

*Bullet*20-100 words
*Bullet*First paragraph (or two short paragraphs) in entire novel

Word Count Bonuses

Weekly word count goals are based on the average word count required to reach 50,000 by the end of the month. The minimum daily average needed is 1,667 words and the weekly word count goals aim for slightly more than this.

*Bullet*Week One: 12,000 words by the 7th
*Bullet*Week Two: 24,000 words by the 14th
*Bullet*Week Three: 36,000 words by the 21st
*Bullet*Week Four: 48,000 words by the 28th

Anyone reaching these goals will receive a gift point bonus of 1,000 gift points for each goal. Certain group members have different goals, agreed upon in advance, and they will receive the bonuses for hitting their own goals.

Everyone who hits their total goal, which is usually 50,000 words, will receive a further 5,000 gift points. This means that the maximum possible bonus for word counts is 9,000 gift points.

Secret Prizes

Prizes will be awarded during NaNoWriMo based on an undisclosed set of criteria. These prizes will be awarded at the judges' discretion and will reward things other than writing. More details may or may not be given at a later date...

Sectional Prizes

This year, the NaNoWriMists are in two sections: the Turbo and Casual sections. The main aim of the Turbo section is speed writing, and the aims of the Casual section are support, motivation and achievement of goals. Therefore there are special prizes for each section which reflect these aims.

In order to qualify for these prizes, NaNoWriMists must have stated which section they are in by November 7th. Anyone who doesn't choose a section will still be able to enter for the whole group prizes, but cannot enter for either section's prizes. Members of the Casual section can't win Turbo prizes, and vice versa.

Turbo Section Prizes

Highest Total Word Count
This prize will be awarded to the member of the Turbo section who achieves the highest total word count, registered and confirmed on the NaNoWriMo website.

Prize: A Determination merit badge.

Greatest Increase in a Single Day
The person who has achieved the greatest word count in a single day will win this prize. This does not mean the person who has reached the highest word count on a particular day; instead it is the person who wrote the most in a single day. This will be judged using the word count chart on NaNoWriMo, so make sure you update your word count every day!

Prize: A Congratulations merit badge.

Casual Section Prizes

Consistency
This prize will be won by the person who is consistent in their ability to average a daily word count which reaches or surpasses their goals. If several entrants appear to have been equally consistent, the prize will either be split or duplicated (depending on funds).

Prize: A Grace Under Pressure merit badge.

Greatest Increase in a Single Day
Identical to the Turbo prize, this will award the person who writes the most in a single day. Again, this will be judged using the official word count chart so keep updating your word counts.

Prize: A Congratulations merit badge.
