                                          Ghazal 169


Persian:  Doosh baa mun guft pinhaan raazdaanay teez hoosh
              Kaz shuma pinhaan nashaayad daasht raaz e maifaroosh
Urdu:      Mujh say kal kehnay laga yeh raazdaan e taez hoash
              Rakh naheen sakta nihaan tujh say maen raaz e maifaroash

English:=== To me said a wise man, "Would it not be nice
                  From the tavern keeper if you took advice
                                                    -

Persian:  Guft aasaan geer bar khud kaarha az roo e tab
              Sakht meegeerad jahaan bar mardumaan e sakhtkoosh
Urdu:      Dhoond aasaaish yahaan, kaar e jahaan aasaan ker
              Kertay aasaan kaam bhee mushkil haen jo haen sakhtkoash   

English:=== "If you take it easy, you wouldn't have to sweat
                  For the harder you push, the tougher it'll get"
                                                    -

Persian:  Waan gaham dar daad jaamay kaz farooghash bar falak
              Zohra dar raqs aamad o barbat zanaan meeguft- noosh
Urdu:      Jaam saaqi nay diya aisa hua roashan falak
              Raqs Zohra nay kya, kehanay lagi - pee baadanoosh 

English:=== He then gave me a cup full of wine
                  And said, "If you drank it, you'll feel fine"
                                                    -

Persian:  Ta na gardi aashna zein parda booay nashnawi                                           
              Goosh e namehram nabaashad ja e paighaam e saroosh
Urdu:      Gar hay jooya raaz ka, ban aashna e raazdaan
              Goash e namehram naheen hay ja e paighaam e saroash

English:=== He said, "After drinking you shouldn't feel odd
                  At night if you hear from the angel of God
                                                    -

Persian:  Dar hareem e ishq natwaan zad dam az guft o shuneed
              Zaan keh aan ja jumla aaza chashm baayad bood o goosh
Urdu:      Kuchh hareem e ishq maen hoti naheen guft o shuneed
              Khamashi laazim, sab aaza ko bana lay chashm o goash

English:=== "Your inner feelings you shouldn't betray
                  When you are a lover, you've nothing to say
                                                    -

Persian:  Dar bisaat e nuktadaanaan khudfarooshi shart neest
              Ya sukhan daanita goo, aey mard e bakhrad, ya khamoosh
Urdu:      Khudnumaaie nuktadaanoun ki nazar maen hay ghalat
              Baat ker maaqul, aey mard e khirad, ya reh khamoash

English:=== "And if nothing very wise there is to say
                  Your lack of wisdom you shouldn't display
                                                    -

Persian:  Baa dil khooneen lab e khandaan biyaawar hamchu jaam
              Nay garat zakhmay rasad, aaie chu nai andar kharoosh
Urdu:      Gar cheh is maen khoun e dil hay, lab haen khandaan jaam kay
              Ho agar bismil to ho, per dil maen ho joash o kharoash

English:=== "Even if it's painful, you should always smile
                  For you are a lover and not a juvenile
                                                    -

Persian:  Goosh kun pand aey pisar, az behr e dunya gham makhur
              Guftamat chun dar hadeesay gar tawaani daar goosh
Urdu:      Pand maen maeri garaan gohar haen, aey jaan e pidar
              Gham na kha dunya e doun ka, yeh naseehat sun ba goash

English:=== "And if you are foolish, you'll pay the price
                  So listen to the wise, and take their advice
                                                      -

Persian:  Saaqia mai deh keh rindiha e HAFIZ afu kard
              Khusrav e saahibqiraan e jurmbakhsh o aebpoosh
Urdu:      Saaqia mai day keh HAFIZ per hua hay mehrbaan
              Khusrav e saahibqiraan e jurmbakhsh o aebpoash

English:=== "And, HAFIZ, drink as much as you can find
                  Our king understands; he is noble and kind"
