DON'T HATE ME

In another time, in another place, if we meet again face to face,
do not turn away from this heart you've known and left behind.
If by any chance you should glance my way, just stop and think
of the days when laughter came easily and when life was kind.

I shed bitter tears of deep regret, you are not easy to forget.
Memories haunt my soul and invade my dreams each night,
taking me back into your arms, oh, let me sleep and dream -
for in those dreams it seems that everything worked out right.

In anger I was the one who turned away from you back then,
I walked away with my head held high and my heart intact.
You were out of my life and I didn't need or want your love,
yet, now I would give anything to have your true love back.

You just walked away without ever stopping to look back
or to try and understand why I felt that I should set you free.
Our paths may never cross again, but I wanted the chance
to tell you, hoping if it's not too late, please - don't hate me.

In another time, in another place, if we meet again face to face,
do not turn away from this heart you've known and left behind.
If by any chance you should glance my way, just stop and think
of the days when laughter came easily and when life was kind.
