Hitting the Paper --

Will this be the year I finally turn out my instant best-seller super fantastic fantasy novel that I have been working on for the past 7 years? Or is this the year of the romance novel, the cyberpunk vampire novel, or the i don't know what the hell this is novel?

Here is where the rotating ideas will go - a place to store the insanity and let it purcolate to perfection in time for NaNoWriMo 2008.

Idea Uno
-- To be written possibly in a mix of prose, e-mail format and blog format....
-- Main character is a French Canadian girl from Quebec City, born to a relatively weathy, old fashioned and social climbing Roman Catholic family.
-- Main character rebels against family's strict rules (mainly her mother) and runs away. There will be one significant event to cause her to run away. The only person who knows where she is and can contact her is her older brother.
-- Main character makes her way west. May or may not stop in Montreal
-- Main character continues on until she comes to the Rocky Mountains. Stops in Banff, finds a job, moves in with a room mate. Life settles.
-- Main character finds mentor in boss & support in room mate.
-- Main characters best friend (whom she left behind) shows up on doorstep several months or years later. He had been running from his own issues. Best Friend has always harbored feelings for Main Character.
-- Best Friend is gay or bi-sexual but Main Character was never aware of this. Best Friend is uncomfortable with this new development in his sexuality (partly why he also left home?)
-- Best Friend possibly enters gay relationship while in Banff. Main Character is now aware of this but is supportive.
-- Best Friend & Main Character sleep together (alcohol induced lack of judgement) This event leads to tension in their relationship and the ending of Best Friends other relationship.
-- Best Friend & Main Character attempt relationship.
-- Something happens to end / destroy that relationship leaving Main Character depressed. Lack of communication (blog posts, e-mails etc) occurs.
-- Time passes
-- Story ends with blog post dated several years later reviewing past things that have happened. Main Character does find happiness but not with Best Friend. Post is short and bittersweet and ends with phrase "and I think that's a very good way to end a journal".

Idea Dos
Sidonie is one of very few who knows the truth. She has known it all her life, a legacy passed on from generations long past. She is the 13th generation D'Aulnay woman to survive their curse, if barely. Her story is perhaps well known to you, a children's tale told before bedtime. If only that were the truth. Sidonie is the many times over great-granddaughter of Madame Nicolette-Elisabeth D'Aulnay, who was godchild to Madame Gabrielle de Villeneuve, the first author of the tale of Beauty and the Beast. What am I suggesting? What do you think.... the world is not as.. normal as you might be led to think. If not for the efforts of the D'Aulnay family the world would still be rampaged by evil child-snatching goblins, beasts and hungry wolves.

Madame Villeneuve was the first member of the Fabulae Mirabiles Incognito, now known as the FMI - a secretive international organization based out of France with operations all over the world, from Russia to Latin America. The FMI is a naught more than a conspiracy theory, if even that to the outside world. Mention it to anyone and they'll blink at you like they don't know what you are talking about. The FMI is hidden underneath the much more reputable Societie de Bretagne at the Academy of Versailles. The Societie's claim to fame lays within its research into Legends and Mythology, especially those of King Arthur.

The FMI has developed through the years with the goal of keeping the rest of the world from knowing what lurks within the shadows. That the tales, the fables and fairytales many have been raised to believe end in happily ever after don't actually end at all. The sole purpose of the FMI is to protect innocents from the evil that lurks through legends and to perhaps once and for all rid the world of those creatures that are better off locked within a book upon a shelf.
