without you
I never knew my father, not really

never thought…
it existed only in my mind
that dry emptiness every time
your name was heard

never felt…
my body murmuring like an arid desert
my soul baked in confused anxiety
I speak so few words

never remembered
the sound of your voice
callously uttering love’s melodies
how to remember nothing?

never forget
suffering and claustrophobia
living alone in a stagnant cave
the echoes alone are my friends

never dreamed
without nightmares of your absence
the warmth of your arms
only a sullen smile

never loved…
for how could I learn from a stranger
the sweetness of a wildflower
or the cool air of death’s farewell?

without you
