On velvet wings, unspoken words
Flew ‘round them in the icy mist
Like fluttering, elusive birds,
Too weak to sing love’s sweet refrain.
To speak of it would be in vain—
The chance long swallowed by the night—
Their long-held dreams slipped out of sight.
The distance grew between them, vast,
As precious moments ticked away
And left one shackled to the past.
For one last time they said goodbye.
She walked away, began to cry.
He softly spoke three simple words—
His velvet whisper went unheard.
Notes: This poem was loosely inspired by one of my favourite film scenes ever. I don't want to spoil the film for anyone, but if you are desperate to know which one it is, it is here!
