Zoey Alice
About when my cat, Zoey died

Zoey Alice

You lay there all night,
Hurt, broken, in pain,
Your fur wet,
As though it had rained.

You'd dragged yourself there,
Three doors from our home,
Before you collapsed,
Nearly dying, alone.

Inside of our home,
Safely we slept
Blissfully ignorant,
As outside you wept.

Early morning,
Banging on the door,
Neighbor crying,
Come quick, she implored.

Blanket around you,
Held in my arms,
We rush to the vets,
To save you more harm.

I cry as the doctor,
Whose voice seems so far,
Explains to me damage,
Done by a car.

Decision to make,
Tears fall from my eyes,
As I hold you close,
To whisper goodbyes.

Our precious Zoey,
You'll always be missed,
For the love that you gave,
Our lives were enriched.
