Safe at Dock
Afloat in swirling blue and red, my sounds tick-tock inside my head. I rock with waves inside my soul. I’m not like you, but I am whole. In noisy crowds, my palms grab ears. Sticky, gritty hands I fear. Clothing, clawing nails that snag. Flourescent lights become red flags. Too much, too loud, too sticky, too red, your world is way too much, I said. I grope, I rock, the swirl, the clock, the waves, my soul is safe at dock. SWPoet Check out this site: http://www.hale.ndo.co.uk/index.htm and try to see what they see. Also, check out this kid's artwork (3 yo with Autism) - Siobohn's story at http://www.siobhansdream.com She isn't just Autistic, but artistic also. This poem was inspired by this little girl and my own 3 year old who isn't Autistic but is very sensitive to loud noises.
