When I was a child
and life was new
for a boy like me
sitting on the terrace
by the covered stones,

I dreamed I saw a fairy
staring at the stars
where fireflies danced
to the light of the moon
peeping down on me,

my mother smiling
to hold me dear
and hug me close
as I wonder why
I’m blind from birth,

seeing through her eyes
the stars above
the moon to shine
on the fairy dreams
I dreamed in her arms.

Today I write in braille
of my memories there
to place upon her grave
in loving words to say
for her to remember -

"I love you Mom
for being my guiding light
in the darkness of my mind
standing here beside your grave
your eyes of blue to see for me"
