Thoughts in the Night… Dark shadows lurking in the night With nightmares that have come to light. The boogie man stands by my bed, Assaulting me with what I dread! Oh how outlandish are my days, They rip apart and set ablaze My soul as I recount my past; Such miseries have I amassed. My fear takes flight as night ensues; And I deny it - lost in booze. But alcohol’s a fickle friend; For in its grasps I do descend… I’ve lost my children, dog and wife; My sour and disappointing life Has struck with unrelenting blows; (We all know how this story goes). The liquor calls me ever nigh; I go to it, don’t ask me why - And thus an incubus holds on; I’m gripped by fear ‘till early dawn. My life is lonely; I’m afraid! My only friend has since decayed The whole of me, I’m so depressed. My pal, the drink, has hence transgressed. So here I lay with bitter tears, Engulfed in chaos in my years. I’m scared with only booze to aide; I’m empty, feeling lost – afraid… Yet, still I keep it in my reach; With none to care, and none to preach. My nightmares have now come to light, With shadows lurking in the night…
