O steel soldier, to serve your country,
You brave the desert sun and sand,
While you face bombs and bullets.

You don’t feel a quiver,
Nor your thoughts wander,
While in battle.

But you dream
Of your
Love!



• A nonet consists of a declining verse of nine lines starting with nine syllables and working down to one.
• Written for the Pond Poetry contest, "Pond Poetry, round 11, organised by Kaya .
