THE STEEL SOLDIER: a nonet
O steel soldier, to serve your country, You brave the desert sun and sand, While you face bombs and bullets. You don’t feel a quiver, Nor your thoughts wander, While in battle. But you dream Of your Love! • A nonet consists of a declining verse of nine lines starting with nine syllables and working down to one. • Written for the Pond Poetry contest, "Pond Poetry" M C Gupta 21 September 2008
