So, of course with my complete inability to do what I am told, I have stopped doing the PreNaNoWriMo prompts.  I have not, however, stopped preparing for NaNoWriMo.  Here is some of the stuff I have been doing.  First the outlines (which are part of the contest, but I did them out of order and...stuff.)

Outline

Very Basic Plot Outline
1)Introduction of Flora and the orphanage system
2)Introduction of Natasha
3)Reunion with Natasha and introduction of Null Gravity (NG) room
4)Flora and Natasha develop “games” in NG room
5)Conflict with rival gangs leading to Natasha's death
6)Flora tries to deal with Natasha's death, gives up hope and stays in NG room after warning sirens
7)Flora arrives at the Academy and James is introduced
8)James and Eyes teach Flora how to behave and hack her into the Academy
9)Cycle 1: Flora tries to survive in a world that doesn't want or understand her.  There are classes
10)Cycle 2: Flora gets placed in a group including James and Eyes, also with Jones (leader) and Ino
11)Flora is a problem child, everyone tries to deal with her
12)Disaster strikes during final examination, Jones is incapacitated, and Flora must decide if she is up to it
13)Flora pulls through, and everyone gets out alive, if somewhat the worse for wear
14)saccharine sweet ending...ah...

Brief Chapter Outline
Chpt 1: Welcome – Flora is transferred from the mid station to Last Station (also called Lost station.)  She is “greeted” my harsh and uncaring staff and sadistic older orphans

Chpt 2: Disconnect – Flora is further beaten into the rules and traditions of her new home.  She tried to find Natasha, her best friend and companion in Mid.

Chpt 3: Talking Walls – Flora notices writing on the wall and realizes that it is Natasha trying to communicate with her.  Following the words and codes she is led to the Null (zero) gravity room, and Natasha

Chpt 4: What Goes Up – Flora and Natasha develop “games” to cover up their reestablished relationship, but they become something more as the older children catch wind of it.  Friends are made, but also rivals and outright enemies

Chpt 5: Laws without Gravity – Flora and Natasha run into the consequences of success and a rival gang decides to teach Flora a lesson.  Natasha pays the price.

Chpt 6: The Other Side – Flora tries to deal with Natasha's death, but takes it very hard.  She is suddenly stripped of all support, and at her wits end, she decides to see what happens after the sirens sounds and the room rotates.

Chpt 7: Who will you choose? - Flora ends up face to face with a very surprised James, in an elite military academy.  Flora won't go back, and James decides that if she is going to stay she might as well make herself
at home.

Chpt 8: Conforming – James brings in Eyes to help Flora learn how to be an elite military student.  Flora tries to learn to keep her mouth shut.

Chpt 9: James hacks Flora into the system as a transfer student from another academy, and she starts with everyone in the beginning of the class cycle.

Chpt 10: Flora tries to catch up and fit in, but mostly she tries to be as overlooked as possible.

Chpt 11: The Cycle is coming to a close, and there are final examinations

Chpt 12: After a week of relative freedom the students move into their new dorms, with their group.  James has managed to skew the placement so he, Eyes and Flora are together again.  They are joined by Ino and Jones.

Chpt 13: Training continues and the group settles into a routine, but Flora can't be ignored anymore, and she doesn't take direction well.  Her defiance grates more and more on the team, and their work suffers.

Chpt 14: The tension of the team comes to a head, and Jones lays down an ultimatum:  Flora has to shape up, or she will be sent back to wherever she came from.

Chpt 15: Flora finds a release for her anger outside of the team...then she gets caught and faces the consequences
Chpt 16: Flora comes back to the team just before final examinations and no one is sure how much trust will be shared and if they can make it through without it

Chpt 17: Final examination, and everything goes wrong

Chpt 18: Everything, having gone bad, and now Flora has to step up...and she does!  Sweet

Chpt 19: Your obligatory happy ending...YAY

Characters

Flora –
Physical: 14, female, 5'5” but still growing.  Bronze skin, dark brown eyes, coarse wavy black hair (kept short), wide lips and mouth.  Late developing and a boyish figure (very athletic.)

personality: Starts out playful and a big troublemaker.  Reserved with her affection and trust and covers up her insecurity with a loud and brazen exterior.  Has a hidden talent for leadership that manifests itself (at first) in her organization and skills in getting Natasha and others to follow her into sticky situations.  She is fiercely loyal, protective, sometimes aggressive and has a streak of temper that runs hot quick and cools down quick.  In general she doesn't hold grudges, but she doesn't forget major slights.  Has trouble being trusting or showing her affection in any way that isn't half jest.

Background: born into the system, she has never known her parents.  Grew up on First and Mid stations.  Got into trouble starting at an early age.  Had difficulty paying attention in class, and since it isn't mandatory in Last station, she stops her studies.  Tests high in IQ tests and such like.  Taught herself many useful skills such as basic lock picking and other minor electronic manipulation.  She is good at getting places that she shouldn't be.  The teachers and staff at the first station tried to encourage her and teach her discipline, and this continued a little in Mid, but soon she was lost in the system and only punished when she acted out.  She has developed a harsh attitude and dislike of authority figures.  Very good at hand to hand combat.

Natasha –
Physical: 14, female, 6', absolutely no curves, skinny, white, long, wild and wavy chestnut colored hair (that seems to have more life than she does), awkward, long limbs, fingers and toes, hazelnut eyes.  Thin lips and a long nose.

Personality: incredibly intelligent and creative, but very reserved, quiet and shy.  She is soft spoken and meek, but hinds a mean streak and a thirst for adventure.  Loyal and dependable she doesn't make friends easily although she tries not to offend people. Not as innocent as she appears.  Very passive when confronted or provoked, she holds grudges easily and likes to plot and exact revenge.

Background: Born Natasha Rose Lillard, daughter of Cath and Seeven Lillard she was an awkward, brilliant child.  Her mother died of disease when Natasha was 6 and her father quickly became absent and distant, finally placing her under care when she was 7.  She carries a deep resentment for him and the way he left her.  She met Flora on her first day and kind of latched on to her as a protector.  Flora was unfriendly at first, but once she saw how clever Natasha was she warmed up to her.  This changed into a real feeling of friendship and loyalty between the girls.

Joel –
Physical: 18, male, 6', densely muscled but not muscle bound.  Darker skin, eyes.  Shaved head.  Prominent scars on his arms and one by his left ear from knife/shiv fights during his years on Lost.
