Celebrating Perfection
A poem about the bitter taste of losing, but giving credit where it is due.

Gamely foes playing with zeal
Gritty focus and nerves of steel
Striving through pain to seize the glory
Winning it all, the champion’s story

Four solid kings, beating three aces
But enough can’t be said of who finishes races
Winning in style with the utmost perfection
Surging most grandly to the highest selection

Spectacular joy and freedom from strife
A time to celebrate the goodness in life
As the room and stage fill with applause
Perfection reigns as the only cause

Someday soon, you are likely to be
The wonderful talent making history
Using a gear to rise to the top
Perfect intentions, unwilling to stop!

But history is made in the most outstanding way
A tip of the hat, to the kings of today
Watching your opponents, calmly and able
Perfectly smooth, clearing the table…
