If I were a girl again for just one day,
I’d put on my princess dress and play, Safe in my castle, I would know, That a handsome prince would vanquish my foe. I’d sit and spin all day long, Imaginary tales until the sun was gone, Surrounded by love from the king and queen, Of magical friends I would dream. I’d dance and play deep in the wood, Where once a cosy cottage stood. Shaded beneath green leafy bowers, I’d laugh with my fairy friends for hours. But I am that little girl no more, Life came knocking at my door, It stole my dreams and rent my heart, Tearing my safe little world apart. And yet, somewhere deep inside, My childhood dreams still reside, So when the world seems cold and grey, These distant memories light my day.
