I watched a flock of dark
birds swell their way across
the highway like a lung.

I ripped open my chest
to see my cells heave in
a seamless, magic unison.

Goddamn you science, you
atommed me. Goddamn you
wisdom, you littled me.

Once, my congregation
stretched their hands out in song,
and I wondered what they

felt. I put my palm out
and waited to feel God’s
wet, little, puppy nose.
