I watched a flock of dark
birds swell their way across the highway like a lung. I ripped open my chest to see my cells heave in a seamless, magic unison. Goddamn you science, you atommed me. Goddamn you wisdom, you littled me. Once, my congregation stretched their hands out in song, and I wondered what they felt. I put my palm out and waited to feel God’s wet, little, puppy nose.
