Choice
A poem about our choice to speak

God said and it was – man no less the same.
God stepped back and left all to man to name;
to choose, to do what his eyes could see.
And so it is today; we speak in faith, "Light be!"

All Life and Death is in the Words spoken
and so the direction of the world is chosen
by those who speak and those who silent stay.
From beginning to end, it is the only way.

Question, if you will, the Holy spoken plan;
but life on earth was left to the mortal man
No violence came forth until he made it so
and with his very words he created woe.

Choice – oh, what a heavy load!
Would we still go if we knew the road?
But choose we do, by act or none;
then we look to see what we have won.

What backs the words we choose
will determine if we win or lose.
If faith’s in self, we’ll surely fall
Our hope in God will win us all.
