Dark, perhaps even black. Neither seem deep enough, neither seem to grasp the infinate nothing that Max faced.
His ears pricked, breathing. His breathing. Thumping, the dull thump of a drum beating from afar. Beyond the noises made by his panicing body the tiny gasp of breath being held. The noise generated by an object purposfully held dead still.
