As The Lights Fade
Sometimes real life feels like theatre.

You're in costume,
Ready to face another day,
To charm your way through
Another opening night.

Believe me, baby,
I know it's not easy,
Playing a different role every hour.
I do it with grace,
Do it with glamour,
Yet no one applauds.

I thought, maybe,
In my highest heels
And lowest-cut blouse,
He would notice me.

I bat my lashes,
Offer a smile
(Thought it stings me to do so)
And he just turns away
As the lights fade.
