Somniphobia
Observations of my nightly struggles intertwining with my childhood nightmares

The stillness of the night
Is broken and shattered
By the wails of ghouls,
Ghosts and goblins

They steal down the chimney
Should I dare close my eyes?
They will creep upon me
Defenseless and exposed
Easy prey to rape and to wound

Under the covers I lay
They can't find me
Wide awake
Pregnant with angst

Submerged, noises distort
Words are mutilated whispers
Thoughts are matted
Nothing passes my cotton cocoon

Could I be the aerialist?
Safe above the spider woven
Willow net
