The stillness of the night
Is broken and shattered By the wails of ghouls, Ghosts and goblins They steal down the chimney Should I dare close my eyes? They will creep upon me Defenseless and exposed Easy prey to rape and to wound Under the covers I lay They can't find me Wide awake Pregnant with angst Submerged, noises distort Words are mutilated whispers Thoughts are matted Nothing passes my cotton cocoon Could I be the aerialist? Safe above the spider woven Willow net
