Natural Worship
        by Karen  (armorbearer@Writing.Com)

In supplication, to my knees I fell;
Sun warm above, earth’s dust beneath my feet.
Coo of the doves my longing ears did greet.
The garden rose entrapped my sense of smell,
as joy within began to swirl and swell.
From harmonic symphony, a steady beat
within the depths as nature did entreat
and called to my soul as it weaved its spell.

In exaltation, I began to praise.
lifting grateful hands up into the air
I offered my sacrifice to The King -
Master of the Universe, Lord of Days.
In that place of worship, I said a prayer,
“Oh God, I love you more than anything.”

An Italian sonnet form perfected by Petrarch (1304-1374), characterized by an octave with a rhyme scheme of abbaabba and a sestet rhyming variously, but usually cdecde or cdccdc. The octave typically introduces the theme or problem, with the sestet providing the resolution.
