The Start of Something New
written for a friend of mine |
| I sit up at night and worry, Waiting for you to call. I feel my mind begin to hurry Toward the inevitable fall. My toes toward the edge Of this black hole in my mind. I step toward the ledge, And I hope it will be kind. "Release me from this pain!" I yell, "Release me from your grasp!" I scream even though I can tell It came out as a gasp. "I know you hear me, friend", I call out desperately, "Approaching my mind's end," I hope you hear my plea. But all you do is laugh, For you know I don't feel pain. And even though I do, All my cries were in vain. Then comes another one, A light in all my dark. You thought that you had won, Until you say my newfound spark. "Enough of this!" I scream, "I'm sick of all your games! I know what my life means; I won't let it go up in flames!" For us, this is the end, Our lives have gone askew. But then I feel the mend, And the start of something new. |
