Apparently the first song I ever heard was A-Ha's Take on Me. My sister loved 80's pop/rock music, and my parents decided that since she had helped them decide my name, she could pick the radio station on the way home. Music has been my life since I HAD a life. Isn't that crazy? I've never really thought of it honestly, but my whole life I've been listening to the past. Yes, that sounds like a "duh" situation, but I've never liked contemporary music that my friends like. Rap, hip hop, Britney Spears-who is so annoying she could be her own genre-and all that. The radio has always been how I kept sane. I love to listen to the radio. Music all the time! Especially 80's music radio stations. Yes, I like the nowadays metal and rock, and some pop stations, but my local radio station: 92.5, is my favorite. It's the anti-contemporary music. Not on purpose though, no, it's actually a call/e-mail request station, but the people who call in are all like my brother and sister. Adults who were born in the mid 70's and now can't stand all this rap crap, and talk about how their music was the high point in music. Most of my friends think they should take a hike, but I agree. I've always loved the 80's and early 90's, my favorite movie was Clueless, partially because I love chick flicks, and partially because of the music. (Yes, Clueless was made in 1995 and had rap in it, well, honestly I just love Alicia Silverstone.) It wasn't even the music that I love about the 80's. The 80's may not have been the high point in everyone's life, but I love everything about it. Some of it was silly, like the jogging/jazzercise outfits, and mohawks. What were they thinking? But the 80's were a great time in history. I've always felt out of place in today's society. Yeah, I don't envy 80's video games, computers, or crime rates, but isn't that life? The good AND the bad? It is as far as I'm concerned. This was meant as a very short short story, maybe even flash biography, and it will be. Here are some of my quotes to end the story. "Whatever happened to the synthesiser?" "Ahh, the 80's. The greatest period of one hit wonders EVER." "What is the world coming to when they can show George Bush Jr.'s face on TV without censorship?" "I just realized this: midgets are people too!" "Flock of Seagulls. Possibly the most INEPT naming of a band/hairstyle in the history of the world." "Fight fire with fire, burning down the house!" The Talking Heads. "Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting! HYAH!" Carl Douglas
