Old men have dreams
The end of the race

Old men have dreams for those we leave behind.

Our dreams are of a world where values truly shine.
The children that we cherish can have a better time.
It’s not really that difficult if we try and make it so.
That is what we hope to do before we have to go

Old men have dreams for those we leave behind.

Why we fail to do so I don’t claim to really know
As we walk out of the sunshine into the failing light.
Knowing that the world we leave them has never been quite right.
The darkness of our tomorrow matched by that in the human mind

Old men have dreams for those we leave behind.

Confused about the path we seek and cannot seem to find.
We shake our head to clear our thoughts as we work to find our way.
We read the words and know we heard, what the book said we were to be
Words upon the paper that’s all the world seems to see

Old men have dreams for those we leave behind.

Unless we place these words in our hearts and really set them free
Matter of fact I really think that’s a good way to hope that it will be
A place for all to sit at the table and find pleasure from their meal
Isn’t that what the instruction book said…and I believe it’s real?

Old men have dreams for those we leave behind.

The invisible feet, standing rudely our shoulders
Holding down the worlds tomorrow with the weight of boulders
The hand which condescendingly rests heavy on our head
Rudely pushing down our lives until the day we’re dead.

Old men have dreams for those we leave behind.

Tears stream down our cheeks as we realize it’s time to go
We face the truth the world doesn’t really want to see it so
We face this truth and ponder, what we can possibly do
For if the world doesn’t grasp this truth we know it is soon through

Old men have dreams for those we leave behind.

Just a thought before we part… with which you must grapple
Remember if all people own a piece of the pie, they are far less likely to steal the apple.
