Winter -- (a ghazal)
Now winter has arrived and brought the snow, I fear. The raging blizzard roars and cold winds blow, I fear. The icy tempest whirls across the frozen earth. The trees are wildly swaying to and fro, I fear. The land is barren; the flowers and leaves are gone. Until the springtime, nothing more will grow, I fear. The geese have flown away to search for warmer climes, But such is not to be for fawn and doe, I fear. The rabbit settles safe and warm within her den, But people cannot burrow down below, I fear. Here I am, trapped within a ceaseless glacial chill. The nights are endless; time goes by so slow, I fear. How long until the pleasant warmth of spring returns? Dear Bella, the answer I do not know, I fear. Refrain – I fear Rhyme – snow, blow, fro, grow, doe, below, slow, know Syllabic - 12/12 7 couplets ![]()
