It’s early morning, no sun yet.
Cards are spinning in front of me As I sip my Earl grey tea. I have a bad hand and I bet Racking in the big pot, no sweat. I bought the pot, my bet a bluff. Like life, doing the best I can Just as most men since time began. But for some it is not enough; As times get rough, life can get tough. Many find cards that make good hands; For others fate misses the mark, Dealing the best hand to a shark. Like cards, life’s flop misses our plans As we face challenging demands. Approaching the time of season When we ponder and give our thanks; Searching the mind and finding blanks. Seeking the meaning and reason With a brain committing treason. While giving thanks remember those Whose lives do not compare to yours, Those that find only the closed doors. Seasonal greetings trigger lows In some that never smelled a rose.
