Going back to the old home

Home Thoughts

There in the valley still stands the old home
The kids lived before we went out on our own
I can see Mom mixing and starting to cook
That old wood stove with it's smell and soot

No better meal can I eat even then or today
On that stove Mom cooked in her own way
Even though those days have came pass
They're in my memories for all time to last

Mom past on to heaven fifteen years ago
Her ten children were all alive including me
You have probably heard this said before
No you can not go back home any more

Even now as my old man I write this poem
I am thinking of the family in that old home
My memories of home will stay in my mind
When I want to go home I go back in time
