HALLOWEEN IN HARLEM

It's Halloween in Harlem
No white sheets in store
It's Halloween in Harlem
No dragging chain sounds on floor.

It's Halloween in Harlem
As money's never seen before.

Ghosts of the Apollo
Ghosts to greet and explore
Tap dancing Boogey men swallow and ask
"Rock candy for your pipe and more?"

It's Halloween in Harlem
Heard now and before
It's Halloween in Harlem
Slapped vein into rise some more!

Oh, Kansas City, Los Angeles
Chicago, Houston, D.C. o'er
Oh, New Orleans, Miami, Seattle and
Phoenix! Down musty twilight alleys
Behind gated sunning hilltops
Life you whore!

It's Halloween in Harlem
Fathers to young implore
It's Halloween in Harlem
Tide's come ashore.

Asphalt
Bayous to rows of corn
Affluence
Golf courses to trailer homes.

It's Halloween in Harlem
Just next door
And Halloween keeps knocking
Encore.
