FOR FREEDOM’S SAKE
He grew up in the hills and vales Amongst cedars and oaks. But then one day he said goodbye To his old gentle folks. He left them all, for freedom’s sake. He had a sweetheart, lithe and fair, Whose eyes held a bright gleam. They both had a little secret And shared a common dream. But they parted, for freedom’s sake. He worked in a workshop where he Had mastered all the ropes. That he would manage it one day, He harboured real hopes. He gave them up, for freedom’s sake. And now, away from home and hearth, Away from his sweetheart, Away from the job which he liked, He had made a new start. He went for it, for freedom’s sake. • Written in abcbD, 8-6-8-6-8 format M C Gupta 30 November 2008
