                                          Ghazal 186


Persian:  Aey rukhat chu khuld o laalat salsabeel
              Salsabeelat kard jaan o dil sabeel
Urdu:      Rukh tera jannat hay, lab haen salsabeel
              Khoon ki seenay maen hay maeray sabeel

English:=== Her mouth is the spring of paradise
                  The tired and the thirsty it does entice
                                                -

Persian:  Sabz pooshaan e khatat bar gird e lab
              Hamchu hooraanand gird e salsabeel
Urdu:      Roongtay aisay haen gird e lab teray
              Jis terheh hooraen houn gird e salsabeel

English:=== Her ruby lips, which guard the spring
                  Much milk and honey to it they bring
                                                  -

Persian:  Nawak e chashm e to dar her gooshaay
              Hamchu mun uftaada daarad sad qateel
Urdu:      Mat chala yuin her taraf teer e nazar
              Daekh her goashay maen haen kitnay qateel

English:=== Her every look is much like a dart
                  It jabs, it stabs, it wounds the heart
                                                  -

Persian:  Ya Rab ein aatish keh dar jaan e mun ast
              Sard kun zaan saan keh kardi bar Khaleel
Urdu:      Aatish e Namrood hay dil maen meray
              Sard ker is ko Khudawand e Khaleel 

English:=== The fire of love that is burning in my soul
                  It has consumed my heart; it's out of control
                                                    -

Persian:  Mun namiyaabam majaal, aey doostaan
              Garcheh o daarad jamaalay bas jameel
Urdu:      Doustoun maen us ko chhu sakta naheen
              Wo haseen itna hay, aisa hay jameel

English:=== In beauty and grace she is like a flower
                  I cannot have her; it's beyond my power
                                                    -

Persian:  Husn e ein nazm az bayaan mustaghni ast
              Bar faroogh e khoor kay jooyad daleel
Urdu:      Maera husn e nazm misl e aaftaab
              Chahiay is ko naheen koie daleel

English:=== But talking about my verses, I'm not shy
                  Their beauty and charm no one can deny
                                                -

Persian:  Moojizaast ein sher ya sehr e halaal
              Haatif aawurd ein sukhan ya jibraeel
Urdu:      Sher maen maeray hay aisa mojiza
              Jaisay laya ho isay khud jibraeel

English:=== Everyone, who hears them, does applaud
                  And thinks that they've been revealed by God
                                                      -             

Persian:  Kas nadaanad guft sheray zeen namat
              Kas neeyaarad suft durray zeen qabeel
Urdu:      Lafz jarhta houn maen yuin ashaar maen
              Jaisay gohar dar glooband e shakeel

English:=== And the verses which I write about the girls
                  They are as precious as the stings of pearls
                                                  -

Persian:  Paa e ma lang ast o manzil bas daraaz
              Dast e ma kootah o khorma bar nakheel
Urdu:      Dour manzil aur maera paoun lang
              Dast kotah aur khurma bar nakheel

English:=== But hanging from a tree, she's like a peach
                  I'm short and lame; she is beyond my reach
                                                  -

Persian:  Aafreen bar kalk e naqqaashay keh daad
              Bakr e maani ra chuneen husn e jameel
Urdu:      Wah aey naqaash too nay day diya
              Soorat e maani ko kya husn e jameel

English:=== But in writing verses I'm far from tame
                  My words have meanings; they're not lame
                                                -

Persian:  HAFIZA, gar maaniay daari biyaar
              Warna daawa neest ghaer az qaal o qeel
Urdu:      Quwwat e maani hay tujh maen ger dikha
              Daawa taera warna HAFIZ qaal o qeel

English:=== Of the words though, HAFIZ, there's no dearth
                  If they don't have meaning, they have no worth
                                                ====
