Prepare!

WATCH OUT! BE GOOD!

Santa is coming! Are you listening? Hear the bells?
I hear his sleigh! It's on our roof! Can you hear it? Where are the cookies?
"No," Mommy says to me. "Santa is not here yet. That is only your imagination.
Now it's time for bed." I would not sleep tonight!

But I guess I was wrong. Now I am fast asleep dreaming.
I'm in Candyland looking for Santa. Oh, there's a delicious looking gumdrop!
And a tasty looking gingerbread man! I'm surrounded by sweet food everywhere!

I'm about to take a big bite. "Hey, what are doing?" he says.
I jump back from the gingerbread man. "You can talk?" I ask him nervously.
"Well, this is Candyland, you know." I turn toward the gumdrop and gasp.
He, too, is alive and blinking curiously.
"Please don't eat us," the gingerbread man begs. "We are here to have fun, like you!"
"But I am only dreaming!" I say loudly. "You are not real and I am hungry!"
"If you are dreaming, you're not really hungry." Poor cookies and candies were all afraid now.
"Okay, I won't eat you then," I promise. "Thank you, kind child," they all chime back.

When I am hungry, I want to eat though. "Do you have anything at all?" I ask them.
"We don't eat here in Candyland, but we play." "What do you play?" I said, rubbing my stomache."
"Actually, we are a part of the playing pieces. There must be more than one person to play."
That's not fair!" I say, but they just laugh. "It's time for you to wake from your dream."
Oh, Santa has come to my house by now!

Suddenly I find myself sitting up in bed, eyes wide. I don't hear a sound so I tiptoe downstairs excitedly.
I gasp at all the presents under the Christmas tree! My stocking is overflowing with coloring books, crayons and candy!
Mommy and Daddy are still sleeping so I run upstairs. "Santa came!" I cry through their bedroom door, waking them.
They rub their eyes and slowly climb out of bed. "Hurry!" I shout, not wanting to wait a moment longer.
"The gifts aren't going anywhere," Daddy says as he yawns. I'm jumping up and down along with my yipping dog.

"The cookies and carrots are all gone!" I exclaim pretty proudly. "Santa and his reindeer must've liked our cooking very much, Mommy."
Daddy winked at me and nodded to the presents, to begin. That was my signal to start opening all of the gifts!
Or at least the ones that had my name on them! First I open up a doll with long, curly red hair. She looks so very much like me, I can't believe it!
Oh, look at my brand new ice skates with pink laces! Daddy is making me stop unwrapping for a picture just now. Mommy says to wait one more minute because the kettle's whistling.
Oh, I can't believe I got a new game of Candyland!!
I lift the top of the game off and out pop the gingerbread man and the gumdrop!
"Hi, there!" they call to me, running around and finding the tree
"Be careful!" I scream at my game parts as my parents stare. But it is too late because the Christmas tree is teetering now.
My silly dog starts yipping now and chasing his tail in small circles.
The tree heads downward as the gingerbread man and gumdrop hold tight.
Mom and Dad are too dazed to do anything but stand there.
Ornaments scatter across the floor and my dog tries to retrieve them.
The gingerbread man and the gumdrop are climbing back into their box. I hope those two realize all of the commotion they have created!
Mom and Dad are laughing at my dog because she is tangled in a string of lights.
My dog is yipping, my parents are laughing, and I am hungry!
