*Star* The Journey - A Poetry Workshop *Star*

A New Horizons Writing Academy Course Offering

"A man of ordinary talent will always be ordinary, whether he travels or not; but a man of superior talent (which I cannot deny myself to be without being impious) will go to pieces if he remains forever in the same place." — Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

*Star* New term begins January 7,  2011 - Registration through New Horizons Writing Academy begins December 3*Star*

*Star* Basic Workshop Description *Star*

"The Journey - A Poetry Workshop" will not include the nuts and bolts, meter and form of poetry writing.  It will provide an experience of delving into the soul of poetry writing starting from a pre-set point and leading wherever it takes us.

*Star* This seven week workshop is not for the timid nor is it for the critic.  It is a workshop directed not necessarily at the "expert" poet but the "experienced" one who enjoys reading and considering the work of others and wants more insight into the art of poetry writing and what inspires that art. As a part of the official format of The Journey, we do not grade, review, or critique each other's poems.

*Star* Our journey will have its starting point at a concept developed through contact with Dan Sturn   Through reading his poetry and theories on poetry writing, my own approach to poetry writing and reading was developed.  Part of my concept, borrowed with permission from Dan Sturn, is a Two Tripodal View of the Art of Poetry Writing.

The "Who Tripod" consisting of Listener, Inspiration, and Reader
The "How Tripod" consisting of three phases of creating art/poetry:  Listening, Crafting, and Reacting

This sets the stage for our writing and reading and learning adventure, which will include a journaling experience.

*Star* What is proposed is a series of activities to include:
         1. Getting acquainted with each other
         2. Reading and discussing the poetry writing concept
         3. Creating and maintaining a journal
         4. Writing poetry
         5. Reading fellow class members poems
         6. Responding to, not reviewing, fellow class members' poems
         7. Holding discussions in forum

*Check2*  This experience will REQUIRE a commitment from you of several hours each week for the entire 7 weeks.  Forum participation and keeping a journal throughout each week are necessary and required aspects of this workshop but are activities I think you will enjoy!

These former travelers have given me permission to use their names.  Feel free to contact them.
