'Twas the Novel Group Before Christmas
A parody of The Night Before Christmas for the YA Forum

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the web,
not a member was typing, not even in bed;
the entries were submitted to the forum with care,
in hopes that the moderator soon would be there;
The writers were nestled all snug in their computer chairs,
while visions of publishers danced upstairs;
And you at your computer and me with a smirk,
had just settled down to get back to work;
when up on the screen, there arose a new post,
my attention was caught where it was needed the most;
I minimized my document, my focus otherwise engaged,
and went to YA forum and scrolled down the page;
the post on the list among all the others,
was boldest and seemed to outdo all its brothers;
when, what to my wondering eyes should be drawn to,
but dark blue letters that came with very few;
with the small pair of eyes in their yellow husk,
I knew in a moment it must be Dusk;
more enthusiastic than children we read,
and saw that our leader had kindly said,
"Now, Kurt! Now, Ralene! Now Vicky and Deborah!
Now, Jay! Now, Airdale! Now, Hailey and Mireyah!"
There are too many to name, I'm glad we have such a group,
but you must go to bed, you're starting to droop!"
So they logged off their computers and went to bed,
with thoughts of Dusk now filling theirs heads;
And then, in a flash, an idea came to me,
and I had to write it down before it went free;
while I was getting it down, I had to log back on,
and saw that Dusk had yet to be gone;
her little envelope was white as the snow,
and I knew mine was too, and she would know;
I read her sweet messages that she posted in the past,
wishing us all a Merry Christmas at last;
I thought of the times she was so kind to me,
even when a silly goose I seemed to be;
She always helped me, but more that that,
she befriended all the members and stayed to chat;
whenever I saw the name DusktilDawn,
I thought of the angel to which I was drawn;
She had a kind nature and never made fun,
She always made sure never to shun;
She was funny and helpful, a jolly sort of person,
and was not the sort of gal whose mood would worsen;
with a flick of her wrist and a few typed words,
she kindly chastised all of her little nerds,
for none of them had left like she had asked them to,
but instead tried to hide that they were online too;
She chatted for a little, just to be nice,
but knew that her kindness would come with a price;
so with a few more exclimation points, she made herself clear,
and all of the writers knew she was sincere;
They all slid their mouses or just slid their fingers,
and headed for the little red ex, where their cursors did linger;
but before they could press it, a last message brought them delight:
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight!"
