  Another year had come and gone.~0~ It was the Holiday Season.~1~ It seemed, as always, a festive time of year, yet for two young people, the best was yet to come.~2~ Clint and Jourdan had known each other since grade school.~3~ They were the best of friends and neither was hesitant to share their feelings with the other.~4~ It had been this way for as long as both could recall.~5~ However, deep down, each felt a certain feeling for their relationship, that was not easily explained in ordinary terms.~6~ Each had often felt the need to spend some time, with each other, to fully discuss those inner most emotions toward their congenial relationship!~7~ Clint and Jourdan, unfortunately, seemingly never had an appropriate time to have a thorough discussion on the topic.~8~

                                                           * * *~9~

  Clint, a tall fair haired boy, was about to turn 18.~10~ He was an outstanding student as well as an accomplished musician.~11~ He stood just over six feet three inches and weighed a healthy 220 pounds.~12~ His hair was raven in color.~13~ His body displayed the developing muscles of a teenager who took great interest in his physical appearance.~14~ He enjoyed his studies and was very diligent when it came to practicing and playing the trumpet.~15~ His real passion was baseball, which he also possessed a certain amount of talent that he had demonstrated through the years.~16~ Clint was by most standards, a well rounded lad for his age.~17~

                                                           * * *~18~

  Jourdan was Clint's equal in the classroom.~19~ In fact, they enjoyed a certain amount of amicable competition, when it came to their grades in all subjects.~20~ Jourdan's athletic drive was toward swimming.~21~ Her body was long and slender as the hourly workouts had developed a physique that often caught the interest of many of the boys in her school.~22~ She loved the long workouts and the meets she competed in each season.~23~ In fact, it appeared, she might even earn a swimming scholarship to attend college.~24~

                                                           * * *~25~

  Clint and Jourdan were often seen together in the library as they both enjoyed their studies and their drive to excel in the classroom was just as important to them as their participation in activities outside the classroom.~26~ They often took long walks on the weekend as they truly enjoyed one anther's company and conversations.~27~ Their's was a special friendship and perhaps to those that observed their comings and goings could easily deduce that they were a pretty hot item as a couple.~28~ Both of the youngsters took their relationship pretty much for granted as they were neither overly affectionate toward one another nor were they demanding of each other for attention.~29~

                                                           * * *~30~

  Yes, to the casual observer, these two seemed to be as normal as any other kids their age.~31~ Not true to those who had known Clint and Jourdan since their early childhood.~32~ Both were different than all of their classmates, though it wasn't easy for an outsider to differentiate at first.~33~ However, upon careful observation, one could, in short order, realize that there was truly something a bit odd about these teenagers.~34~ Clint was deaf and Jourdan was without sight!~35~ Both, at an early age, had attended schools for children with special needs.~36~ It was there that they met and formed that special bond that had been theirs ever since their early years of education.~37~

                                                           * * *~38~

  Over the years as the two had grown and become closer, they each offered the other a friendship unparalleled by those around them.~39~ Clint became Jourdan's eyes and Jourdan would describe, as best she could, all those sounds that Clint was unable to detect.~40~ All who watched this young couple grow and mature through the years, knew this relationship was one of both give and take, each benefiting from the other's kind tutelage.~41~ In fact it was uncanny how well the two had grown up together sharing each other's shortcomings, but more importantly, how they constantly inspired one another to achieve success in a world others knew only normalcy!~42~

                                                           * * *~43~

  Holidays had come and past for Clint and Jourdan.~44~ Each did their best to share the joys of the seasons.~45~ Clint, very patiently, would describe how the town was decorated for Christmas.~46~ How each shop had its own personality displayed with bright and shining lights.~47~ He often would relate how wondrous the display of the Nativity was so special in all its glorious colors.~48~ Most especially, he delighted in sharing with Jourdan, the grand Christmas Tree that was placed and decorated each year in the center of town.~49~ He did his level best to relate every detail that he knew she was continually asking him about.~50~ Jourdan in turn, through signing, would tell Clint about all the joyous and wonderful sounds of Christmas.~51~ He was always attentive to her signing as he never wanted to miss a single description, even though it was a symbol and not a sound.~52~

                                                           * * *~53~

  This Holiday Season was to be extra special for both Clint and Jourdan.~54~ They had been selected to throw the switch that turned on the town Christmas Lights.~55~ This was an annual celebration as it officially started the Holiday Season in their little town.~56~ Just after dark that evening, people from all over the countryside, as well as those who lived in the small village, gathered for the lighting ceremony.~57~ As was usual several of the town officials were given an opportunity to say a few words to the crowd.~58~ The local band and choir played and sang a few holiday songs as the members of the gathering throng joined in the celebration.~59~ Clint and Jourdan were really excited as they approached the platform where they would throw the light switch.~60~ Both teenagers were a bit nervous, but they shared the joy that had seemingly infected all who were in attendance that night.~61~ After the final speaker was finished and the band and choir had finished their final piece, Clint and Jourdan were led to the stand to finalize the event.~62~ They walked hand in hand toward the large switch that had been set up especially for this event.~63~ Up the steps of the platform and on to the switchboard they strode.~64~ Everyone could feel the anticipation building throughout the multitude of observers.~65~ They joined hands and ever so carefully reached for the waiting master switch.~66~ Together they grasped the switch and gave it a firm downward tug.~67~ To everyone's chagrin, nothing happened!~68~ Clint quickly pushed the switch back to its original position.~69~ He whispered into Jourdan's ear that they would throw the switch one more time, however, this time they would be more deliberate.~70~ The switch was thrown and once again nothing happened.~71~ Both kids were uneasy, yet, they were not about to quit!~72~ On the third try, " KABOOM", marvel of marvels!!!~73~

                                                           * * *~74~

  Yes, that twas the season to remember.~75~ A miracle had taken place.~76~ The entire town was there to witness the event.~77~ The lighting ceremony turned out to be a sensational happening!~78~ Not only did the lights flash on after a short hesitation, all the lights in the small town flashed on in a bright flurry.~79~ The glow of that little village could be seen for miles that night!~80~ The whole event took place in but a few moments in time!~81~ Two white doves were seen escaping the Christmas Tree and brushing the faces of the two young people who had thrown the switch.~82~ It was a miracle, a gift from above!~83~ However, the two teenagers received the greatest gift of all!~84~ By the stroke of He who is our Lord, they each received his personal blessing.~85~ Clint received the precious gift of hearing and Jourdan was blessed with eyesight!!!~86~

                                                           * * *~87~

  More often now than in the past, the two youngsters can be seen near the bridge that enters the small town as they stop to give thanks for their gifts and to thoroughly enjoy their long enduring friendship.~88~ Now, as a couple, they have the ability to see and hear their oft observed companionship.~89~ They truly represent the joyous celebration of life!~90~
