To My Friends, Charles and Dorothy (1939-2004)
On their last Anniversary If Monday Never Comes I will have spent the week with you I will have kissed you seven perfect times Seven times would be enough for a lifetime If Monday is not coming If Monday Never Comes I should tell you about last Tuesday It was just a Day But I lived it with You So let Monday stay away We will keep Tuesday If Monday Never Comes Was there Glory in last Wednesday? There was Glory in Wednesday We had the Treasure of Living it Together That is the Day we changed From youth to maturity So What, If Monday Never Comes! If Monday Never Comes, Thursday with you was exciting It remained the same Alive! Knowing that I would Spend such a Day in Time With You No comment needed If Monday Never Comes If Monday Never Comes Friday was the Day to have lived We were kids again With expectant Hope Satisfied with Sharing Not even caring If Monday Never Comes If Monday Never Comes Did we not experience Saturday? Yes, my love, we tasted that Day We froze its moments in eternal frames No, we never considered on Saturday That Monday was so far away How could we possibly know That Monday May Never Come If Monday Never Comes What will happen to Sunday? The Blessed Day of our quiet Devotion To the Cause of all things – Jehovah To the One who makes all things Right again, His Son, Jesus Christ It is our outstanding Trust that... It Is Impossible for MONDAY TO DELAY by Earthene Fleming September 07, 2003 Author's Comments: "On September 7, 2003, I awoke with this refrain in my head: "If Monday Never Comes". I began to write the title, and the poem just flowed onto the page. I had lunch with my friend, Dorothy and her husband, and remembered that it was their Anniversary. I read this poem and gave it to them as a gift. She was a surviving cancer victim. She graciously took the poem; then I realized it was a poem of finality and the parting of lovers. She died in February, 2004. I felt sad and uncomfortable. Do you think it made her feel sadder because of her impending death (which I didn't realize)? Or do you think this couple could appreciate the sincerity and love that I was trying to express about strong love and affection? How would you feel in this situation?"
