Dear Me, ANNUAL NOTICE!!! This is your Life Purpose Department, located in the small corner of your brain just past the 90% that is useless to you, writing you (AGAIN!) to lay out your most ambitious goals for the coming year. We’ve done an excellent job achieving these goals in years past, and we look forward to helping you maintain that high standard that we’ve set for you. First of all, we’d like to congratulate you on how well you’ve done in the last few months. Things haven’t been easy for you, but you’ve pushed through it! You stepped up to the plate. You pulled it off! Things will continue to be difficult for you, but we know you can do it! As far as your writing goes, you’ve done an excellent job of expanding your portfolio. You’ve really blossomed in the poetry department as well (as we know quite well, as they keep sending us inter-department memos for more support!) and we’d like to see you really push to get some of that poetry published. We are setting you a goal of entering at least 10 poetry contests before the end of March. I know it seems like a lot, especially considering that many contests require newly written poems that have not been posted online or previously submitted elsewhere, but you can do it! (After all, that’s what you bought that Poet’s Market 2009 book for, isn’t it?) As for school, you have 12 more days before the semester begins. You’re only taking two classes but it’s going to be hard given the full-time work schedule. Stay on top of your homework, study hard, and keep a calendar of all due dates so as not to forget anything. Your goal for this year is to obtain at least a 90% in each class you take. (And as you are going to be taking two more classes starting in August – and you ARE taking two more classes in August – you have a lot of work ahead of you!) As for your personal life, you have two main goals this year – 1) Be strong for Dad, and 2) let Quay help you be strong for Dad. I know it’s really hard knowing that he has terminal cancer, but he has a strong and loving family to support him. You are a part of that family, and as such you are going to call him at least twice a week. You are going to do small things to surprise him – a random card in the mail, a teddy bear, a text message, etc. Be there for him. He needs you, and you need him for as long as you can possibly have him. You’ve already done a lot of the hard part, just by forgiving him and letting go of so much of the past. Just as with Gramma, you don’t get a second chance to say goodbye. You’ve done an excellent job in the past of facing life, learning from it. You’ve grown into an intelligent, compassionate, and giving person. We’re proud of you for that, and we’re looking forward to seeing you learn and grow even more in the coming year as you strive to reach the goals we’ve set for you. We here at your friendly Life Purpose Department want to let you know that we are here to support you in all your endeavors... And remind you that your friends and family are as well. Sincerely (and until next year), The Tiny Little Part of Your Brain That Motivates You Written for:
