Assignment 1 for Tell Me A Story Class
Fables, Parables, Myths, and Legends Three examples of fables are: The Tortoise and the Hare The Boy Who Cried Wolf Watership Down Three examples of parables are (and this one I looked up in Wikipedia to make sure I was getting the right idea): Wikipedia states that there are 23 parables in the Gospel of Matthew alone. Three of them are (from Matthew 13) The Mustard Seed The Leaven The Hidden Treasure Three examples of myths are: The story of Aphrodite, the goddess of Love The story of Zeus, the god of the sky, and king of all other Gods The story of Poseidon, the God of the Sea Three examples of Legends are: The Loch Ness Monster Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox The Hodag – this is a very local legend. I live in a town called Rhinelander, and the Hodag is a logging legend from the area. Our town mascot is the Hodag. It is a green creature that looks like a cross between a dinosaur and a gator. It has spikes down its back and a long tail. It also has enormous fangs and claws. A local logger long ago said he had captured this beast. It was rumored to eat white bull dogs and small children (or course!) who wandered too far away from their homes… or that didn’t eat their vegetables, or any other wealth of things that parents wanted children to do.
