The beginning of something new

Time to start things new and fresh
Give up the old structures, demolish
The decayed, the drab, and the dreary.
Listen to your heart that tells you forthwith
To begin the year with something of worth.

New, unexpected relationships knock at the door
Do not turn them away or do not ignore.
Charity and patience make a great start
Let me take that chance that comes
But rarely in life’s ephemeral ways.

Doing good not for reward
But for that rare inward
Happiness and contentment.
This is the beginning of something new
And too exciting for me to eschew.

First Place winner in Coloring the world contest.
