by arakun the twisted raccoon

“Where did you think you were going, young lady?” Alice asked as her daughter Susan headed for the door.

“To the mall with Becky and Jan.  You said I could.”

“Not looking like that.  Where did you get that sweater?”

         “I borrowed it, okay?  It’s Becky’s.”

“Well give it back to her and wear something of your own.  That’s too tight and too low.”
         “There’s nothing wrong with it.”

“Go and change.”  Alice threaded a needle and turned back to her embroidery.

Susan argued, “It’s not fair!  Everything you make me wear is baggy.”

Drew ambled in munching an apple.  “I told you she wouldn’t let you wear it,” he said with his mouth full.

“Shut up!” snarled Susan.  “All right Mom I’ll wear a scarf.  Will that satisfy you?”

“No, because you’ll take it off as soon as you’re out of my sight.  Go and change or stay home.  Those are your choices.”

         “That’s not fair!”  Susan blazed.

Drew grinned, watching the show.  “Give it back to Becky.  I’d like to see Becky wearing that!”

“Stay out of it, Drew,” his mother warned.

“All the other girls get to wear what they want.“

“I’m not their mother.  Go and change.”

“And give that black sweater back to Becky and tell her to wear it to school tomorrow.”  Drew gave a vulpine growl as he left the room.

“There! You see what a teenage boy thinks of that sweater,” Alice said.

         “Drew is a pig.”

         Alice repeated, “Go and change.”

“I’m always embarrassed by what you make me wear.  I look like something out of the 20th century!”

Alice bent over her embroidery to hide her smile.  Susan started upstairs.

Drew was on the landing.  “Told you.”
