Like a Thief
He invaded my home. *First attempt at Poetry*

You crept into my home
like a thief in the night
through windows incapable
of keeping you out

Silently drifting through the house
up the stairs, down the hall
into my bedroom.
The household sleeps

You circle the bed slowly.
Envisioning the attack,
waiting for the perfect moment.
Preparing to strike

I roll over. You tense.
There! The opening you sought!
Under the covers you creep
I sleep on, unaware.

I jolt awake!
Sensing something wrong.
Flying out of bed,
chilled to the bone.

I check on the little one.
Another blanket, a tuck, a kiss.
Thermostat turned up.
Sweatshirt pulled over my nightgown.

I crawl back into bed,
knowing who had been here.
Knowing who had attacked me in my sleep.
Your time is limited Jack Frost.

I burrow under my covers,
envisioning spring breezes,
flowers, green grass.
Birds chirping "Spring, sweet Spring".

A few short, cold months.
Spring will finally arrive.
Jack Frost will be banned for another year.
I count the days.
