An Ordinary Day
What happens on a usual day...

This was a job I never had in mind,
yet mine was the name they managed to find.
I was about to say that I never applied,
but then, desperation took hold of my mind.

I had waited for months for the phone to ring
and this was the only one that came my way.
I couldn’t just let this opportunity go,
who knew what the future had in store?

Without any qualification or degree,
I was in the play, the lead actor to-be.
Learning my lines and trying to express,
I was nervous and under a lot of distress.

I flinched as the director sized me up
and guessed that perhaps the end had come.
But I was surprised when he clapped and smiled,
and told me that I was doing just fine.

On the day of the play, feeling tense and uptight,
I stepped onto the stage filled with fright.
The thronging crowd added jitters to my nerves.
I closed my eyes and prayed to the Lord,
pleaded with Him to let all go well.

When I opened my eyes, silence fell around.
I stepped into the shoes of my character,
saying my lines flawlessly and being one with Him.
I didn’t even notice when the people stood up.

They cheered and whistled while my fellow actors lifted me up.
In the midst of all this, I realized
this was my unseen dream and my fate.
I found it all on what seemed like an ordinary day.
