I heard this song on the radio today
as I was driving down the road that made me think of You and your smile and the way that you laughed at my jokes even though they weren't funny, and how you didn't even have to try to make me happy. Then it wasn't so hard to remember why I'd fallen in love with You and your eyes and the way you would roll them when I made you promise to stay out of trouble. and how you never did. Then I would recall how much time I spent worrying about You and your future and the way you kept passing up second chances. and how your criminal record was longer than my mom's grocery list. Then I couldn't help but wonder about Us and our relationship. and the way so many things between us are left unsaid and how even though I love you with everything I am, it isn't enough to change you. Remembering these things brought tears to my eyes. But I didn't change the station. Because those memories of you and the us that never was are the only things I have left.
