no more tears of laughter from the chosen
Ambrosian fields of paradise

eyes with less and less twinkling mirth
birth an inkling of distrust

rusting away the people’s good humor
more emotional craze

praise brings awards for thoughts of eradication
nations are lost and dispossessed

jest not against harmony swaying peace
increase this endless strife

a knife for Jerusalem
mayhem caused by man’s belligerence

fences made from gunpoint become prisons
sons plot for the survival of the ancient clans

hand over Palestine?
“for Thine is the kingdom…”

alas! Jerusalem
