“I don’t want your Pity.”
Some will say “I don’t even need it.” Others add I say though: “It is just sad.” What you have done to Pity? If there is no Pity There is no Mercy If there is no Mercy Apathy and Improbity Have made safe their durability Where will we learn? When will we turn? Pity’s bad Reputation Promotes varied observations “You don’t need me.” “I don’t need you.” some reply So, I turn, and am gone You won’t even give a sigh Never realizing you are now alone Pity’s bad Rep needs to be changed Before we all have lost All that has been gained At such a horrific cost Slandering Pity with a boast We just must get of this rut Of not feeling from the gut by Earthene Fleming August 11, 2002 Author's Comments: "This is just my observation. I am sure that we need pity as not a denigrating feature; but one of compassion for our neighbors wherever they may live. That feeling not just in the head; but it is the gut feeling that will impel us to act."
