DID PITY GET A BAD REP?
To All Who Would Like To Keep Compassion

“I don’t want your Pity.”
Some will say
“I don’t even need it.”
Others add
I say though: “It is just sad.”
What you have done to Pity?

If there is no Pity
There is no Mercy
If there is no Mercy
Apathy and Improbity
Have made safe their durability
Where will we learn?
When will we turn?

Pity’s bad Reputation
Promotes varied observations
“You don’t need me.”
“I don’t need you.” some reply
So, I turn, and am gone
You won’t even give a sigh
Never realizing you are now alone

Pity’s bad Rep needs to be changed
Before we all have lost
All that has been gained
At such a horrific cost
Slandering Pity with a boast
We just must get of this rut
Of not feeling from the gut

Author's Comments:
"This is just my observation. I am sure that we need pity as not a denigrating feature; but one of compassion for our neighbors wherever they may live. That feeling not just in the head; but it is the gut feeling that will impel us to act."
