The treachery of fate  caused me an accident three years ago. One day, in the kitchen, the bursting of a stove  scalded me, and I was subjected to injury caused by severe thermal burns. I was immediately taken to the hospital.

"Where am I now?'' I asked as I regained my consciousness. The mangy hospital walls seemed to drive out my spirits. I desperately looked for my parents, but they were nowhere to be seen.

Afterward, a plump, good-natured nurse came into my room and gave me some medicine. Suddenly, the sideways mirror caught my attention. The ghastly sight gave me shivers. A portion of my neck was severely burnt. I was horrified by looking at the stranger in the mirror. I couldn't recognise myself. Traumatic burns had disfigured my appearance.

Afterward doctors came and dressed my ulcerous wounds. The dressings caused me great affliction. I used to cry with pain. This continued for six and a half months with a bout of four operations.

The dismal place was the denizen of darkness, making me morose and tear-stained. The only glint of happiness was given by a nurse called Dolly, who lavished her love and care upon me like a Goddess and mentally boosted me.

She used to sing lullabies to me each night and assisting me to sleep. Her stories took me to a different world, oblivious of my suffering. She tried her best to alleviate my pain by telling me good jokes.

She was a very good friend and like an angel with the lamp of hope.

Gradually I recovered. I am all right now.I now feel whiffs of fresh air kissing my cheeks, relieved to have come out of that depressing place. I owe my sincere gratitude to her. I miss her now, The Angel in My Life.
