Haunted - On a moonlit night near a rocky shore, I settled into my bed. Seeking rest and nothing more, to calm my tortured head. But found a ghost instead. The wind howled fierce beneath the eaves, of my shack upon the shore. It sent aloft the brittle leaves and threw them at my door. The leaves and something more. I heard the moaning, soft at first, and tried my best to ignore. But then the door inward burst, letting rain spill on the floor, of my shack upon the shore. Lifting from the pillow my head to see what came within. My spirit filled up full of dread, and my heart filled with chagrin. By the ghost of what I'd been. Without a sound it gazed at me, with a look of pitiful blame. And as the waves crashed out at sea, it called me by my name. Inflicting on me shame. I begged for it to let me be, and promised to rebuild. The ghost just stood and stared at me, 'til my jaded heart was stilled. By this life unfulfilled.
