I've always been a scribbler...

Daydreaming
The busy day has just begun,
work is waiting to be done.

Just take a moment to the silent and still,
curled up comfortably on the window sill.

An only girl in a house of boys...

Brothers
'Snag' parents grumble
I remain silent, humble;
the natives rumble.

Grew up in Navy family, lived overseas...

Age 4
Home – D.C.
until three
Vietnam
intervenes.
Jungle dread,
snakes widespread,
monkeys fed –
Philippines.

College educated...

Lagniappe
Away from the university halls
are more lessons to learn…

Under sweet scented crape myrtles
in putrid sewage-laden breezes,
sidewalk entrepreneurs
shouting and selling;
half-starved artists
circulate, entertaining.
Street theater of the talented
and the absurd;
a desperate strain to their comedy,
poignant laughs in their tragedy.

Laughter lilts in every language imaginable.
More dancing and music than one city can hold,
the crazed carnival spills into each street.
Sirens shout off in the distance
though revelers continue their chant “Mista.”
Part religious celebration,
part abandoned conformity,
part madness.

Then, the invitations by
clumsy youthful grins
and knowingly jaded smiles
in dark ageless quarters.
A bottomless glass of liquid introduction
accompanies each would be suitor.
Warm heady embraces, or fevered lovemaking,
easy finds in the purplish haze,
but I wait for a little bit more.

Then a mother...

Hugs
The biggest compliment of my life
came from the simplest of vision
smallest of voices.

From a sleepy pair of eyes
a tired whisper into the cozy comfort of pillows,
"Mommy, this has been the best day of my whole life."

Other bits and splatters?
wife...
    "Young Wife 13+: in retrospect....
cancer survivor...
"Kojak Women 13+: who loves ya baby?
marathon walker...
"Health Warrior Returns E: taking back my health after many sick days
constant traveler...
"Salthill Sunrise E: walking along Galway Bay, Ireland ,
"Matilda waltzes through Europe E: trip to Europe on a highschool student tour.
and typically nonsensical or laughing at the absurd...
"Green Eggs and Ham, a ghazal E: I could not, would not...
