Smilin' Joe
Sometimes life is just that good.

October 22nd was the date,
the day that sealed Smilin' Joe's fate.
He sat at the card table rarin' to go,
times were hard, but he refused to feel low.

Lights were bright, laidies scantily clad,
Joe was thinking life wasn't half bad.
Cards were dealt, the dealer shared a grin.
Surely it was his turn for just one win.

The Yankees did it by beating the Mets,
providing the money for this current bet.
Rush of the victory had led him here,
telling him 2000 was to be his year.

His eyes blinked in wonder at the sight,
Karma brought him a perfect 21 that night.
The dealer went bust; it was a done deal.
That night Joe believed miracles were real.
