Since I have written this, I have realized my goals were from a Newbie's aspect, and didn't know my potentials as a reviewer, nor my lack of desire to write poetry. This is my first, Dear Me, letter and rather infantile. Maybe you will get a good laugh out of it.
Dear Me,
I am writing to inform you that I’ve decided to become an active author. I vow to no one, except myself, to write a descriptive idea or thought every week day. I definitely am making this a practice. I am starting this project today. I love to make my words come alive on paper, and I love the way the words seem to appear out of nowhere, as I write. It’s thrilling. I feel the energy escape my finger tips as I strike the keys on my laptop. My keyboards the pen, my monitor the paper on which my ideas are captured.
The New Year, 2009, is like an ominous foray of threatening, dark clouds before it quietly calms, and begins blowing fragrant winds gently through the flowery meadow, as plans to conquer the year’s outlook are captured on paper. There! I’ve written my descriptive idea for the day. That was fun!
I desire to become a much better writer. I plan to read what others in the community have written and do two reviews every week for the next three months. That will be twenty-four reviews I will have written by the end of March. I have already written my review for today so I have only twenty-three to go. That is not a hard goal to meet. It’s a rather relaxed one. I don’t want to push myself too hard to begin.
The second quarter of the year I plan to work on writing poetry. I plan to write two poems a week for three months. I will end up with twenty-four poems by the end of June. Also, each time I sign onto writing.com I plan to give a review, through the end of the year.
By the end of September I plan on having written four short stories. I believe I can work on and develop one short story over a month’s time. I have not written any short stories for a couple years. I love to work on them, and I look forward to accomplishing this third quarter goal. I can do this; I am very motivated.
The last quarter of the year will end on the last day of December. This will be a very special quarter as I plan to do a repeat of the last two quarters. I plan to write poetry in October and half of November and have twelve new poems written. By the end of this last quarter I'll have two more short stories written. Quite frankly, I think by the time the year is out I will be going rather strong, and I will be on my way to a good income. All the experience writing will not have hurt me.
When I write a review I will invite the person I am reviewing to visit my port, so I will have more exposure in the community. I am interested in doing contests when I see one that interests me; I plan to actively enter one contest every quarter during the year. I am looking forward to meeting my goals by working on my plan throughout 2009. A well planned year has a way of calming the ominous outlook of a New Year.
