                   Habits are born from differing sources,
                                       They grow and become who we are,
                                       They form the shape of our memoir;
                   Sit the balcony as the sun courses
                   As dusk arrives, it’s to the back porches,
                                       And you are there both near and far:

                   Thin fingers gloved in reddish-gold emerged
                                       Gently reaching for the mantle
                                       That spreads across the glass table.
                   With the shroud removed, night and day diverged
                   And the red flames pushing the fingers surged;
                                       The lake dressed in the day’s twinkle.

                   This morning’s sunrise painted you to see
                                       In its beauty and golden hue,
                                       I looked upon it and saw you.
                   The mantle removed and my eyes set free,
                   In the sun I saw what love means to me
                                       It’s the glow from the light I knew.

                   Yellow slipped out of its warm gold cocoon
                                       Beginning its arc of day’s flight;
                                       Flowers inhaled, absorbing light.
                   Children in the park played all afternoon,
                   The robin found perch and sang her sweet tune;
                                       Small boats answered the lake’s invite.

                   The day’s light, brought life, painting you to see;
                                       In its beauty and yellow hue,
                                       I looked upon it and saw you.
                   The sounds filling the air set my mind free,
                   In the day I saw what love means to me
                                       It’s the flow of life I once knew.

                   Slowly - reddish-gold fingers softly closed
                                       Reaching and pulling the cover,
                                       Gently- as if for a lover.
                   The splendor of the day and night transposed
                   And in the fading light love was proposed
                                       With the longings to discover.

                   This evening’s sunset painted you to see
                                       In its beauty and reddish hue,
                                       I looked upon it and saw you.
                   The mantle replaced and my dreams set free,
                   On this night I saw what love means to me,
                                       It’s life painting you through and through.
